Tuesday’s new CDC smoking statistics prove vaping is NOT a gateway to smoking

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released its latest national smoking statistics last Tuesday, and tobacco use among both teens and adults has plummeted to record lows.  The data flies in the face of multiple statements by officials of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) who claim that vaping is a gateway to smoking.

According to the CDC press release, around 16 percent of adults (over the age of 18) were regular smokers in 2016.  A year later, the percentage had dropped to 13.9 percent.  Teenagers are also showing tremendous progress with only 9 percent of high school students reported to be regular smokers.  That’s the lowest number in recorded history.  And what’s more, even the regular smokers are smoking less cigarettes on a daily basis.
